STEAM, for those of you unfamiliar with the term, is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Our camp program uses a combination of on-site activities and exciting field trips to explore these topics in a fun, educational way. Our exploration of science will take us all the way from Gumbo Limbo and the Museum of Discovery and Science to our own backyard, as we explore the plants and animals that live outside the school on a nature walk or learn how to make a raincloud in a bottle. Technology abounds, as campers will explore nanotech at the South Florida Science Center and learn about computers by seeing what the inside of one looks like first hand. We will participate in engineering labs off-site while constructing simple machine on campus and experimenting on building the tallest structure and the strongest bridge out of common household materials. We will see great works of art at the Norton Museum and interact with art at the Young at Art museum, while experiencing drama at the Coral Springs Performing Arts Center and Delray Beach Playhouse. Campers will also paint, sculpt and even sing and dance, letting their creativity flow in a variety of indoor and outdoor art activities. We will bring math to life with the help of the folks at Mindgames, who will introduce the children to a wide variety of STEAM themed games to play. Campers will also experience the practical effects of math through cooking activities and learning about money, not to mention the fun side with our scavenger hunts, sports and visits to the splash park.
